There are 2 ways to create a patient chart: through the search drawer and through the scheduler.
The search drawer can be used to create a new patient chart:

Press the 'New Active Patient' button at the bottom of the search drawer. A panel will come down in which you can enter details of the contact information for the patient.

As you type information into the fields, the 'Accept' button will become disabled. After completing a field, press 'Return' (or press the tab key) to allow Nopali to check for data consistency and enable the 'Accept' button, if all the data checks out. Note that Last Name' and 'First Name' fields must not be blank for the accept button to light up. Press the 'Accept' button to create the chart.
The scheduler may also be used to create a patient chart. This is a convenience method and can be used to create appointments for new patients over the phone. These charts are also labeled 'inactive' until the new patient shows up for their first appoinment, at which point it can be rendered 'active'.
Go to the scheduler interface and drag across an area in the calendar to create a new appointment:

To create a new chart, you must first search for a last name (this is to make sure that the patient on the phone does not already have an existing chart). Press the 'Search For Last Name' radio button and perform a search. If Nopali finds a similar last name in the database, it will present a panel with a list of names:

After verifying that the patient does not have a pre-existing chart, pressing 'Create New Patient' will shift the appointment panel into 'new chart' mode:

Enter the essential data for patient contact and appointment details and press 'Create Appointment'. This will simultaneously create the new chart for this patient, along with creating a new appointment.
The new chart will be labeled 'inactive, as indicated by the italicized patient name in the appointment cell in the scheduler:

When the patient shows up for their first appointment, the chart should be rendered 'active'. Double-click on the appointment to see the 'activate' button. Press it to render the chart active:
